For many years bass players have been told to sit at the back of the stage counting notes while the guitarist and drummer make random noises and jump about the stage like the ego junkies they are!
The role of the bass player has always been underminded by the flashy moves and pointy guitars of their band mates! A decent bass guitar for gigging is somewhat rare, for many years we have been told that fender, warwick and the music man range are the only way to fly, however these basses are all ridiculously over priced, you're talking nearly €2,000 for a musicman stingray, the same again for a warwick corvette and most annoyingly nearly €3,000 for an ugly fender!
Add this to the cost of a decent amp and you're looking at well over €3,000 for a decent gigging setup. However there is an alternative. Ibanez have long been known for their quality quitar making skills and their bass guitars are simpily outstanding, their flagship model is the K5, retailing at €800 from most good music websites the K5 revolutionized bass playing in the nu-metal genre of heavy rock, endorsed by rock gods KoЯn the K5 delivers ground shaking low-ends thanks to its fully active on-board pre-amp. However, not everbody likes to play metal or rock, so to make their basses more accessable Ibanez brought out the EDA and EDB series of basses. The EDA and EDB were instant successes and quickly became a must have for all aspiring bassists. The most radical thing about these basses is their body, they are not made out of your traditional guitar woods but instead they were constructed out of a man-made material called luthite, this made the bass virtually indistructable, i know that from experience, ive had one for 3 years and ive gigged more times than i can remeber with it and it still has its stunning looks and unquestionably devestating tone!
